Today we are going to have look on the steps which we use for “Enable Archive Log Mode In Oracle RAC”. Being Oracle DBA we all know the importance of Archive Log Mode. This few line explains the technical definition for the quick review of Archive Log Mode.
Most of the High Availability features of Oracle require you to enable ARCHIVELOG mode for your database. When you enable this mode redo logs will be archived instead of overwritten. The archivelogs are stored in a separate place usually can back up regularly by your standard filesystem backup system (NetBackup or whatever). Archive logs are utilized by RMAN, Data Guard, Flashback and many others.
If you’re going to enable archivelog mode on a real database that’s important to you, I would recommend shutting down the database and doing a cold backup just in case. Keeping a “final noarchivelog mode backup” seems to be a good and excepted practice.
Follow below steps for enabling archive log mode in oracle RAC.
1. stop the database service.
srvctl stop database -d ORACLEHELP
2. start the database in mount state.
srvctl start database -d ORACLEHELP -o mount
3. enable archive log mode.
SQL> alter database archivelog;
Database altered.
4. Restart the database service (using srvctl)
srvctl stop database -d ORACLEHELP
srvctl start database -d ORACLEHELP
5. set the archive destination to a ASM DISK
SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_1=’LOCATION=+ARCH/’ scope=both sid=’*’;
System altered.
SQL> archive log list
Database log mode Archive Mode
Automatic archival Enabled
Archive destination +ARCH
Oldest online log sequence 724
Next log sequence to archive 726
Current log sequence 726
SQL> alter system switch logfile;
System altered.
For disabling archive mode also . steps are same
srvctl stop database -d ORACLEHELP
srvctl start database -d ORACLEHELP -o mount
alter database noarchivelog;
srvctl stop database -d ORACLEHELP
srvctl start database -d ORACLEHELP
Why not FRA ?:)
Because we don’t FRA diskgroup present 🙂
You can enable for FRA 🙂
